Grant for Good 2022 Winner Announcement

Grant for Good

To celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2021, we launched an annual $20,000 community grant to provide help to projects, organisations and initiatives that promote social inclusion activities, health and wellbeing, sports and other fields that benefit our communities.

Thank you to all the organisations who applied, and are doing good in their hood. All applications were reviewed with great consideration in relation to our selection criteria:

  • The purpose and objectives of the Applicant’s initiative/organisation.
  • The plan for what the Applicant’s initiative/organisation will do with the grant.
  • The impact on local communities and the disadvantaged, including the number of individuals/groups who will benefit from it.
  • Brand alignment with Bank of Sydney’s values and vision.

And the winner for 2022 is…

The winner of our 2022 Grant for Good is Plate it Forward. This not-for-profit organisation empowers individuals from vulnerable, disadvantaged, and at-risk Sydney communities to overcome barriers to social and economic participation. Their work focuses on understanding the individual and collective needs of these communities and responding to their needs through the targeted delivery of projects and programs that build social cohesion, food security, and community and economic participation.

What's the grant going to be used for?

Our $20k Grant will provide funding for 1.5 months’ worth of food goods to deliver a minimum of 5,400 free meals through their Social Meal program.

The objectives of The Social Meal are:

  • Food security: reduce food insecurity in disadvantaged Sydney communities by providing a minimum of 900 meals per week.
  • Employment: create employment for disadvantaged persons and provide them with the education, skills, and training necessary to work in a fully-operational kitchen.
  • Food sustainability: reduce food waste by rescuing and re-plating perfectly edible produce from landfill through their food supply partners Coles, Secondbite and Foodbank.

2021 Grant for Good Winner update

Our 2021 Grant for Good winner was Variety: The Children’s Charity. They are a charity that empowers disadvantaged kids to live, laugh and learn. Variety used the grant to donate eight adaptive tricycles to two schools in regional Victoria, in communities where students are experiencing ongoing trauma and disengagement. Due to delays from COVID and the current international environment, there has been delays in getting the bikes to the kids, however we are very much looking forward to the children receiving the bikes soon. Once again, thank you to all the amazing organisations who applied for the Grant. We’re truly inspired by all the good that these incredible organisations are doing in their hoods and we can’t wait to do it again next year. Please do consider applying if appropriate and spreading the word to relevant, deserving organisations who are making a positive impact on their communities.
