Grant for Good 2021 Winner Announcement

Grant For Good

To celebrate our 20th anniversary we’ve launched a yearly $20,000 community grant to provide help to projects, organisations and initiatives that promote social inclusion activities, health and wellbeing, sports and other fields that benefit our communities.

Applications for 2021 closed on 20 July and five finalists were chosen. All five were so inspiring, which made choosing the winner extremely difficult. However, sticking to our selection criteria around the impact on local communities and the disadvantaged, we’ve made a decision.

And the winner is...

The winner of this year’s Grant For Good is Variety: The Children’s Charity. This is a charity that empowers disadvantaged kids to live, laugh and learn. They receive no government funding and completely rely on supporters to help thousands of Aussie kids every year, to reach their potential regardless of their ability and background.

What’s the Grant going to be used for?

To donate eight adaptive tricycles to two schools in regional Victoria, in communities where students are experiencing ongoing trauma and disengagement. The 2020 fire, Covid-19 and significant levels of disability are all key factors and, unfortunately, before now, there weren’t resources to fund equipment that would improve kids’ mental and physical health. The specially designed tricycles will enable students living with a disability to be included in social bike riding activities, giving a huge boost to their strength, confidence and sense of freedom. This very tangible direct impact on social inclusion for disadvantaged kids will be hugely beneficial in a number of ways.

The community ripple effect

Because the new adaptive tricycles will enable kids living with a disability to participate in social events in their areas, each one will have a beneficial ripple effect beyond the individual using it. So while this initiative will start with an individual child finding joy and freedom, the result will be the broader community experiencing renewed positivity and hope.
