Never let your card out of your sight when making a transaction.
Always check the amount and currency unit of the transaction before signing, tapping or entering your PIN.
Check that no one is watching you when you enter your PIN at the ATM or merchant terminal and remember to retrieve your Card after making a transaction.
If you change your address, please contact us to update your details as soon as possible.
Set up personalised phone/email notifications via the ‘Alerts’ section in Internet Banking so you can identify and quickly report suspicious transactions.
Check your account statements regularly to identify any potential unauthorised transactions.

Security Measures to Protect your Card, Device & Passcodes

Your Bank of Sydney Card, devices, PIN, passcodes, passwords, OTP (one time password) and SMS OTP are the keys to accessing your accounts electronically therefore their security is very important. These guidelines are here to assist you keep your Bank of Sydney Card, PIN and passcodes secure and minimise opportunities for unauthorised transactions or misuse.

Do not keep a written record of all pass codes required to perform transactions on one or more articles liable to be lost or stolen simultaneously, without making a reasonable attempt* to protect the security of the PIN or passcode(s).

Do not select a numeric pass code that represents your birth date, or an alphabetical passcode that is a recognisable part of your name as these are easy for an unauthorised person to guess.

You must not act with extreme carelessness in failing to protect the security of all PINs and passcodes, where extreme carelessness means a degree of carelessness that greatly exceeds what would normally be considered careless behaviour.

An example of extreme carelessness is storing a user name and passcode for internet banking in a diary, phone, tablet or computer that is not password protected under the heading ‘Internet banking codes’.

Liability for losses resulting from unauthorised transactions will be determined by the provisions of the ePayments Code and not just these guidelines.

Circumstances where you may be held liable (or partly liable) for any unauthorised transactions under the ePayments Code include if you contributed to the loss through breaching security requirements in the guidelines and/or as outlined in the following documents:
