CEO message: Starting the year with a bang

After a hugely successful 2018 for the Bank of Sydney family, we’ve continued to ride that positive momentum through the initial months of 2019. Most recently, we announced our successful acquisition of 62 Pitt Street.

Situated in the heart of Sydney’s CBD and in the prestigious retail district, the property will become the Bank’s new headquarters. As our signature branch and Australian head office, I believe this purchase will allow us to deliver even better products and services to our customers and the wider community.

The acquisition was completed at the same time as we reached another major milestone: $2 billion in deposits. I am so proud of our Bank of Sydney team, and want to thank our loyal customers for putting their trust in us.

As our financial offering grows and evolves, so too does our leadership team. In February of this year, we appointed Victor Andersson as our new Chief Financial Officer. Victor brings with him a wealth of professional accreditations and banking experience, most notably his time as Director in Assurance and Advisory – Financial Services at Deloitte.

We also welcome our new Head of Marketing, Holger Pfeilmaier. Holger has spent the past 18 years driving growth for iconic brands like Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, LG and many more. He is an advocate for customer-centric business strategies and is obsessed with driving measurable business outcomes.

I also wish to take this moment to thank our previous Head of Marketing, Soteris Hadjikyriacou, for his wonderful work while in the role. Soteris will continue to add exceptional value to the Bank of Sydney family in his new position as Head of Premises and Procurement, where he will also take ownership of all activities related to our new Head Office Building and new signature branch in Sydney’s CBD.

February was a busy and exciting time for us. It was also when our Term Deposit (online) and Everyday Saver products were crowned the nation’s best-value deposit accounts at the Mozo Experts Choice Awards. Mozo’s Director, Kirsty Lamont, called Bank of Sydney a “stand-out performer”, and it gives me great confidence that we are being recognised for providing high-quality financial alternatives to the ‘Big Four’.

Finally, I wish to share my Easter greetings with our entire Bank of Sydney family – our valued customers, communities, colleagues, board, shareholder group and of course our talented staff. Easter is often a time for sharing and reflection, and I intend to look back on all our achievements over the past 12 months with great pride.

Happy Easter and best wishes for the remainder of 2019.

Miltos Michaelas
